As of November 23, 2009, at 5 p.m., Dr. Assad will no longer be a licensed physician.
You can search for the PDF decision on the California Medical Board's website via the "Enforcement Public Documents Search"
I've posted the PDF at medpotcrisis.com, and you can read the PDF on the page:
CA Medical Board Revokes the license of Dr. Hany Assad - medpotcrisis.com/hanyassad.html
or download the PDF directly from:
http://medpotcrisis.com/2009.10.23-HanyAssad-DecisionRevoked.pdf
of particular note, the Medical Board said:
"Respondent reached the conclusion that marijuana would be an effective mediation for SW [patient] without following the well-settled standards for licensed physicians. The overall impression is of a cursory office visit. Accordingly, there is no reasonable basis upon which to base a belief that he will conform to the standard of practice in the future. Patient safety is at risk by his continued practice and the public interest requires that his certificate be revoked." - California Medical Board"
If you have any questions of what the Medical Board means by the well-settled standards, please see:
What is an appropriate standard of care for Physicians who recommend Medical Marijuana for their patients - medpotcrisis.com/docs/practicestandards.html
for a one-stop summary of the appropriate standard of care for physicians that recommend Medical Marijuana - this page links to all of the documents that make up this standard, including the Medical Board's basic guidelines, the CMA (California Medical Association)'s Guidelines, the Mikuriya Case (which the Medical Board adopted as precedent at their June 2007 meeting), and some other relevant information - the Conant Decision, information about the illegal practice of medicine, and more.
If you are a current patient of Dr. Assad, be aware that your physician's statement recommending medical marijuana will be invalid as of November 23, 2009. It would be advisable to secure a new physician (and this time, perhaps you might want to consider a legitimate doctor?!?) as soon as possible.
Hello. I am writing this because I have been informed that the reason Hany Assad is being suspended this year is not due to his lack of respect for female patients, but rather because the parents of an adult complained to the board that their son was able to obtain medical marijuana.
A man who's initials are "SW" was granted medical marijuana recommendation through Dr. Assad. However, the man's parents did not approve of his decision and made a complaint to the medical board which they followed through with, and now suspended Dr. Assad's license.
This is absolutely absurd. Not only does Dr. Assad provide safe access for thousands of Bay Area residents, the man in this case who's parents are complaining is 18 years old, a legal adult by all standards. I want to know why the board is responding to this complaint. The man is 18, and the parents have no right to complain.
I am hoping someone knows the name of the man as well as his nosy parents. As of now we can only know from records that the man's initials are "sw". Could someone please post the man's name as well as the name's of his parents? They need to be held accountable for their actions somehow. The names probably won't be found on the internet, they are supposed to be confidential, but since these snobs (probably from marin county) have screwed over so many people, I want to know who they are. Please post if you know WHO DID THIS
Macbenz,
Please don't post anyone's personal information on these forums. It will be flagged and removed. This applies to posting personal information for anyone, for any reason.
Patients have a right to privacy. It's probably not the patient in questions' fault that his parents filed a complaint.
Thanks

I’m a current patient of Dr. Assad at his Oakland office and have been a patient of his for 3years. I recently hear about him losing his license and did my research to make sure how this affects me as a patient. When I contacted the office they re-ensured me that my recommendation was valid until my expiration date in April ’10. They told me that ALL recommendation that Dr. Assad wrote before or on October 23, 2009 keeps their validity until expiration date because they were written when he was in GOOD STANDING with the medical board at that time. I urge you all to do your research and not believe everything you hear.
Hello all I am writing because my husband has been a patient of Dr. Assad's for a couple years now. He expired at the beginning of this month and when he went in for his renewal he discover that Dr. Assad had left the practice. He was evaluated by Dr. Denney. This was good news for me and all ladies out there. Norcal practice has brought on new doctors that can see females. My husband scheduled me an appointment for next week. I've been waiting for the day.
Got some nazis on the med board now I see.
